Home Security Checklist
Home security is important when listing your home for sale. Agents and prospective buyers will be in and out for showings, so it is important to keep your home and your belonging safe and secure. Here are some things to think about when considering security:
- Will your home be available for showing during the day? If yes will anyone be there?
- Will your home be available for showings at odd hours? If yes, how early and how late?
- Will your children be allowed to show the home?
- Will your spouse be showing the home alone?
- Will you require identification from prospective buyers?
- Will pets be restrained during showings?
- If weapons are in the home, are they secured?
- Will liability insurance cover you in case of accidents?
- Do you keep large sums of money at home?
- Do you keep jewelry/valuables in plain view?
- Are all entryways secured and locked at all times?
- Do you have a security system?

[…] If you ARE NOT going to be home or if you leave for an extended period of time during the listing period, I suggest that you use timers for lamps to go on and off during different times of the day. This is especially helpful in the evening hours so that realtors don’t enter a home that’s dark. In addition, make your neighbors and your local police department aware that you are not home for that specific period of time.
